FUTURE FINS

Futures Fins is filling the demand for a strong, easily installed removable fin system. Futures improves the efficiency of the manufacturing process, with a system that’s hinged on simple pre-glass installation. With a diverse team of athletes, including Jordy Smith, Rob Machado, John Florence, Clay Marzo and Dave Rastovich, Futures offers a complete line of fin templates for all surfers, boards and conditions, and is known around the world as the Strongest Lightest and Fastest fin system on the market.

Futures collaborated with North Shore professional surfer Coco Ho on these twin +1 fins for Coco’s surfboard label XO COCO. XO COCO is a surfboard company designing equipment specifically for and with women. The new Coco twin + 1 fins are designed with smaller surface area for women and smaller surfers. Built in solid fiberglass construction.

The MR Twin+ 1 set combines the best performance features of a twin fin and a thruster. Pure twin fins are fast, loose, highly maneuverable, and responsive, and the addition of a small stabilizer fin adds an extra degree of drive and control. The large side fins from this set are big enough to be ridden in a pure twin fin configuration and will work in virtually any size or shape board in an optimum surf size range of 1 to 6 feet.

"Being pure foiled fiberglass, the construction of my Futures Fin set mirrors the traditional flex characteristics of a hand-foiled fin cut from a multi layered fiberglass fin panel. The 2+ 1 configuration gives the board a twin fin performance feel with additional speed and maneuverability. The small real rear stabilizer fin adds a degree of positive control and predictability. The outline temp for the MR Twin Fin set plus rear stabilizer is over 20 years old. I developed it around 2000 in response to a request from Soeda Surfboards Japan to make some twin fins for the team riders. My pure twin templates have a wide base and are very upright with not a lot of rake. So, I decided to design a new twin fin and small stabilizer template. Feedback from the Soeda team riders was positive, they loved the boards. The moment I got the feedback I got excited and shaped myself a modern twin fin with the 2+ 1 set-up. 24 years later I'm still surfing with these fins and totally frothing on them!!!"

"Sometimes the path forward leads us by looking back. In 2008 and 2009, while building boards and filming for 5’5” REDUX, we got into designing fish and other alternative boards around a Twin+2 setup. Basically a Quad, but with twin fins up front, and what were essentially longboard “side bites” as the rear quads. Cory Lopez famously rode this setup during the iconic segment of him slaying Skeleton Bay, on one of the first ever documented strike missions there. He also nailed a SURFER Mag cover, doing an air, in Indo, with the fin setup clearly visible.

Over the last year or so, I revisited this concept and have been personally having a blast, working with Futures to get it tested and developed. Using the new "medium sized" Evil Twin template up front and pairing with two 80/20 foiled, downsized rear quads, we felt we nailed it. After playing with varying cants, flexes, and visuals, we are proud to announce and release the all NEW EVIL TWIN+2…or should we say EVIL QUAD.

To celebrate the release of the Evil Quad and Evil Twin we updated the graphics and cant angle of the original EvilTwin, as well. All three options come resplendent in radiant color, by LongToe laminations" Mayhem
